Jane is in a certain ticket line in which each of the other people in the line is either behind her or ahead of her. In the line, the number of people ahead of Jane is 5 more than the number of people behind her. What is the total number of people in the line?

(1) There are 11 people ahead of Jane in the line.
(2) The total number of people in the line is 3 times the number of people behind Jane.

1) 11 people are behind Jane.

We know 5 more people are ahead then behind. so total is 17. 1 is true. so answer can be A or D.

2) total number are 3 times people behind her.

let people behind her be x. Total people are 3x. We know that people ahead are 5 more than behind. so people ahead are 5+x.
So this will be 3x=x+(x+5)+1. one variable and solvable so 2 is also true.
