In an election contested by two parties, Party D secured 12% of the total votes more than Party R. If party R got 132,000 votes, by how many votes did it lose the election?

A. 240,000
B. 300,000
C. 168,000
D. 36,000
E. 24,000

0.44 x = 132000

so 0.12 x = 132000/44 * 12 = 36000

Given that party D secured 56% of the votes and party R secured 44% of the total votes.

So we have 44%(Total Votes) = 132,000
We need to find 12%(Total Votes) = 12/44(132,000) = 36,000

D+R = T

D= 0.12T + R

2R= 0.88T --> R=0.44 D=0.56
