is x<y?

(1) 2x<3y

(2) xy >0

Clearly B is not sufficient.
I tried plugging #s for option A and everytime whatever #s i did everytime i got x <y

Which #s did i miss trying??

try plugging 1 for both X and Y.

2X < 3Y
X<1.5 Y

1<1.5 * 1 , condition holds true but X (is not) < Y.

Plug X =2, Y=3

2 < 4.5 and X < Y, So, Not Sufficient.

Plug

x=1 y=0.75

2x<3y but yet x>y

so 1) also is insufficient

u must not have tried with fraction
x=1/2
andy=1/3

2x<3y
but x>y

Try with x = y values..i.e x = 1 or y = 1...or x = 2 and y =2.. etc...

the phoenix,
if u take x = 1/2 and y = 1/3 ..as u said earlier ....
then the 1st statement is not satisfied! i cannot proceed further to question the main stem unless each of the two statements are individually proven valid.

If i take x = 1/2 and y = 1/3 then the answer i get as 1=1 which contradicts statement one i.e., 2x<3y

thanks for this info.
using x=y=1 i get an answer NO to the main question.

Now which #s should i plug in to try proving x>y and hence statement 1 = INSUFFICIENT????

yeah true

we must take x=1/2 and y=1/2
for which
2x<3y
but x=y hence no
