$$Target\ question:\ is\ the\ value\ of\ x^2+xy=0$$
Statement 1: x=0
$$If\ x=0,\ then,\ 0^2+0\cdot y=0$$
This validate the target question, hence, statement 1 is SUFFICIENT.

Statement 2: y=0
$$If\ y=0,\ then,\ x^2+x\cdot0=x^2$$
This does not give the correct answer to validate the target question. So, therefore, statement 2 is NOT SUFFICIENT.

Since only statement 1 ALONE is sufficient, then, the correct answer is option A.
