Let's take each statement one by one.

1) \(x=\) is multiple of 9.

No multiple of 9 falls between 20 and 26 inclusive. Closest to 20 is 18 and that to 26 is 27, both not in the range. The answer is no. Insufficient.

2) \(x=18\)

The statement itself answers the question. 18 does not fall between 20 and 28, incl. The answer is no. Insufficient.

The correct answer: D

Target question: Is the integer x between 20 and 26 inclusive?

Statement 1: x is a multiple of 9.
So, x COULD equal 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, etc
Notice that none of these values is between 20 and 26 inclusive
So, the answer to the target question is NO, n is NOT between 20 and 26 inclusive
Since we can answer the target question with certainty, statement 1 is SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: x=18
Once the answer to the target question is NO, n is NOT between 20 and 26 inclusive
Since we can answer the target question with certainty, statement 2 is SUFFICIENT

Answer: D

This question is asking us if integer 'x' belongs to any number in the set {20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26}.
Statement 1: x is a multiple of 9
Multiple of 9 includes 9, 18, 27, 36, ...
None of the multiples of 9 belongs to the set {20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26}.
Therefore, integer x is NOT between 20 and 26. Hence, statement 1 is SUFFICIENT.

Statement 2: x=18
18 does not belong to the set {20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26}, hence, statement 2 is also SUFFICIENT.

Since each statement is SUFFICIENT alone, then the correct option is option D.
