Is it possible to do well (700+) without much preparation??

I think the GMAT is a far challenging monster than the SAT. If you look through the I Just Beat the GMAT forum, you will find posts of people who have hit 700+ with just a few weeks of study. I personally have a friend who scored 770 after just two weeks of studying and another person who scored 760 after 1 month of studying. But these two are both naturals at standardized tests (the guy who scored 760 also scored 800 (out of 800) on his math SAT II awhile back).

The thing to remember is that your score is a benchmark against everyone else taking the test. Because of this, it is much easier to score in the 90th percentile in the SAT then compared with the GMAT.

This is simply because most of the people taking the GMAT are more motivated individuals pursuing a grad degree. In contrast, people taking the SAT are just pursuing college degrees.

I would not anticipate being able to breeze through the GMAT simply because of a high SAT score. That being said, if you can, more power to you!

Is it possible? Sure, anything's possible.

Your SAT scores show a natural skill with standardized testing on math (780 is a very high score). 600 on the verbal, however, is not exceptionally high.

Also - how long has it been since you studied high school-level math and how much do you remember? When you took the SAT, you just studied all of that stuff.

Really, though, take a practice test and see where you're at right now. That's how you should decide what to do - not based on how you did on the SAT a long time ago.
