I had a great conversation with someone at the school I'm applying to. I actually had the opportunity to speak with three people, but I think my conversation with this specific person was the most valuable.
We talked about internships and many program specific things. She was very impressed with my knowledge of the program and also provided me with a wealth of knowledge. She even sent me an email saying it was nice to speak with me, welcoming me to the school and that if I needed any help with my move to let her know.
This was very encouraging as I haven't even applied yet. I've also spoken a fair amount with the admissions director, who also put me in touch with this person. I have a feeling she'll be reading my essay.
Would it be appropriate to mention my conversation in my essay? One of the questions is "Why their University?", so I think that discussing this conversation and all the things I learned would be helpful in providing my answer. Obviously I have many reasons for applying to this specific school, but this conversation furthered my interest a great deal. Also, I thought it may be good to remind the admissions director of who I am.
