Its confusing.. please help..

A.Until quite recently, Inuits led a nomadic existence, sheltering in igloos, the ice-block domes that are peculiar to northern-central Canada, and in structures made of stones, bones, driftwood, sods and skins.

D.Up until recently, the Inuit people, leading a nomadic existence, have sheltered in igloos, the ice-block domes that are peculiar to north-central Canada, and in structures made of stones, bones, driftwood, and skins.

Plz go thru the bolded parts. A makes sense.
Here is my confusion....

A.Until quite recently, Inuits led a nomadic existence, sheltering in igloos, the ice-block domes that are peculiar to northern-central Canada, and in structures made of stones, bones, driftwood, sods and skins. <- Doesn't quite recently and recently means the same...??

D.Up until recently, the Inuit people, leading a nomadic existence, have sheltered in igloos, the ice-block domes that are peculiar to north-central Canada, and in structures made of stones, bones, driftwood, and skins.

Also in D the modifiers are placed close to the noun they modify....

the Inuit people, leading a nomadic existence,
in igloos, the ice-block domes that are peculiar to north-central Canada[/b]

A. Until recently, the Inuit people led a nomadic existence, sheltering
B. During recent times, the Inuit people lead a nomadic existence,
sheltering.
C. In the times that are recent, the Inuit people led a nomadic exis-
tence, sheltered.
D. Up until recently, the Inuit people, leading a nomadic exis-
tence, have sheltered.
E. Until recent times, leading a nomadic existence, the Inuit people
were sheltered.

OA l8r!!!! do explain your logic
IMO A.

A. Until recently, the Inuit people led a nomadic existence, sheltering
Correct
B. During recent times, the Inuit people lead a nomadic existence,
sheltering.
Changes the meaning
C. In the times that are recent, the Inuit people led a nomadic exis-
tence, sheltered.
Awkward. Changes meaning
D. Up until recently, the Inuit people, leading a nomadic exis-
tence, have sheltered.
"Until recently" expresses the thought correctly and concisely. No need of using "Up until recently". Also the use of present perfect is wrong.
E. Until recent times, leading a nomadic existence, the Inuit people
were sheltered.
Changes the meaning

Hope this helps.

@Nervesofsteel,

Coming to your question D has verb tense conflict." leading a nomadic existence" is a present continuos verb whereas we need a " past tense verb". A gives you a past tense verb (led a nomadic existence), a event that took place in past.
