Hello all,
I am new to the site and am hoping to glean from all of the wonderful people taking the GMAT test. My goal is to get anything over 700 and have been pretty much glossing over the requirements of the test, test subjects, verbal expectations, and quantitative expectations. I have also been working on putting together my study plans. I pretty much have just begun studying somewhat regularly.

There is so much study material out there, where do you start. I've been so far just going through easy stuff and trying to progress. I am a systems analyst and have about 18 years of experience working with technology. I do want to get my MBA from UNC or NC state. NC state is newer, but has a somewhat of a technology focus because of the engineering expertise.

Good luck everyone! The more I get into the test materials, the more I realize how fun this adventure is going to be.

Hi all, Im a commerce graduate from Mumbai, India and Im looking forward to apply for a Master of science program in marketing for fall 2012. I plan to give my gmat sometime early november this year, for the first time ever.

But before I begin my tryst with GMAT, I was just a little confused over whether I should be studying for it all by myself or opting for professional coaching instead.

If I should go in for self study then what books should I refer to (keeping in mind that i can dedicate around 2 hrs daily and do this for 4 months) ?
and
If I should opt for coaching/tutors then who should I go to ? There aren't too many good GMAT coachings that im aware of.

Anyways, irrespective of what study plan I choose, I just hope we can all help each other crack this test. Eagerly looking forward to a hopefully fun filled study course.

Best,
Tanisha Jajoo.

Welcome Tanisha to our community! And thanks for that introduction.

I would recommend that you try self study for a bit yourself first. You may find that you are effective in preparing for the GMAT on your own. Prep for a few weeks and then try a GMATPrep practice test (available for free from MBA.com). If you are in range of your target score, then keep preparing on your own. If not, think about a test prep course.

I hope that helps, good luck!

Hi People,

My name is Taz. I am from Mumbai, India. After two years of working in the software industry, I realised that this is not where I want to be. I hope to give my GMAT in november-december 2011 and aspire to get a score in excess of 740. BeatTheGMAT is an amazing initiative and serves as an excellent melting pot for people from diverse backgrounds but a common aim. I hope I fulfill my dream and am able to give back to this forum.

Cheers!!!!!!!
