International students at disadvantage applying in round 3?

Hi,

I was considering applying to the Kellogg-MBA in 3rd round, however, when I noticed this Im considering otherwise:

"International and One-Year students applying in Round 3 will be at a disadvantage. We typically admit all international and One-Year students in Round 1 and Round 2 to allow time for visa processing for international students".

Is this business as normal? Is an international applicant at a disadvantage applying in the third round?

Another question: As Kellogg is ranked somewhere around top 5, how come is the average GMAT here lower than in several other programs lower ranked?

Well, first of all, ALL students are at a disadvantage because of reasons of the number of spaces being far less. But international applicants are at an EVEN greater disadvantage because of the Visa issue. Mind you it's not impossible. I know a few international folks who got into Top programs in R3, but in general, it's better to avoid it if you can.

Jon,

I wanted to follow up on your response - are international people with MBA sponsoring also more disadvantaged in round 3 ? I heard that for sponsored people there is no visa concerns ( that admission comitees does not regard them as ones with potential risk of not getting visa). Is that true ?

I had a very big concern as I blew my GMAT ( 690, Q50 V32) which I took 3 days before the deadlines of R2 and decided to postopne my applications to top 5 schools ( I was consistently getting 740+ on mock GMAT tests with verbal varying 38-42).


So do you know some numbers for HBS/GSB/Wharton/Booth on how many international students do they admit in R3 ?
