Question: x-y+1 > x+y-1

x-y+1-x-y+1 > 0

2-2y > 0

1 > y (thus we need to know whether y is less than 1 and that's tricky)

Given: y > 0 (we don't have to know the "real" value of y, just to verify whether y is < 1). The option 2 satifies that condition, hence the anwser is B. The question doesn't say whether y is an integer thus it can have a value gretaer than 0 & < 1 .
In fact I think even if option 2) says y > -1 the answer would be still B.

I think u posted the stmt2 wrong.

If stmt2 is y<0,then B would be the answer.
