Target question: Is x² > y²?

Statement 2: x > y
There are several values of x and y that satisfy statement 2. Here are two:
Case a: x = 2 and y = 1. In this case, x² = 4 and y² = 1. So, the answer to the target question is YES, x² IS greater than y²
Case b: x = -2 and y = -3. In this case, x² = 4 and y² = 9. So, the answer to the target question is NO, x² is NOT greater than y²
Since we cannot answer the target question with certainty, statement 2 is NOT SUFFICIENT
