In what year was a certain study completed?

The study's findings were published in 1988, exactly 6 months after the study was completed.
The study began in 1985, and was completed exactly 3 years later.

Statement 1: The study was completed anytime between July of 1987 and June of 1988, inclusive.

Not sufficient

Statement 2: The study was completed anytime between January of 1988 and December of 1988, inclusive.

Sufficient

The correct answer is B.

I think answer should be Option B.
From statement 2, it is clear that study was completed b/w Jan1 1988 and 31st Dec 1988 both inclusive
and the question is only asking for the year of completion.
