Given: x/y is fraction such that x and y are positive integers.
Question: What is the value of y?

Let's take each statement one by one.

(1) The least common denominator of x/y and 1/3 is 6.

=> y is 2 or 6. No unique answer. Insufficient.

(2) x = 1.

Can't get the value of y. Insufficient.

(1) and (2) together

Still y = 2 or 6. Insufficient.

The correct answer: E

Hope this helps!
