Choice A. The argument gives a clear example where job security (due to the cost required to fire an employee) leads to a negative consequence (loafing).

For II, there is nothing that says the author feels there aren't enough workers being fired.

For III, there's nothing about the percentage of government workers that are Civil Service employees.

Civil Service employees knows how hard it is , hence the tend to Loaf ( to waste time; to idle the time away doing almost nothing ).

This is the reason why government is so inefficient.

II. More government workers should be fired.

III. Most government workers are Civil Service employees.

I. True , we can infer it from the passage.

II. Contradicts the passage , there is nothing to infer from here as it has been explicitly been stated in the passage.

III. Stated in the passage directly.

(A) I only
(B) I and III only
(C) II only
(D) I, II, and III
(E) III only

Hence IMO (A) only I.[/b]

CRITICAL REASONING QUESTION:
In the effort to fire a Civil Service employee, his or her manager may have to spend up to $100,000 of tax money. Since Civil Service employees know how hard it is to fire them, they tend to loaf. This explains in large part why the government is so inefficient.

It can be properly inferred on the basis of the statements above that the author believes which of the following?

I. Too much job security can have a negative influence on workers.
II. More government workers should be fired.
III. Most government workers are Civil Service employees.

(A) I only
(B) I and III only
(C) II only
(D) I, II, and III
(E) III only

I think 'A'.
Is it?

Answer should be A.

statement 3 is generalization for all govt. employees which is wrong.
