Only 1 can be inferred from the passage. Option 3 seems to be awkward and far fetched.

B

'I' is clear
I think 'III' is correct coz it is explicitly given that "This explains in large part". It can't explain in a larger part unless it occupies a larger part in the discussed argument

III is more like an assumption for the argument when it states (Most govt workers are civil servants)
Negate it the argument doesnt hold good. You cant call the govt inefficient.

Hence A

i went with both 1 and 3
but 3 may be cannot withstand as it is based on the assumption that more number of employees determine the fate of the govt.
only one weak president can cause fluctuations which cannot be recovered

please tell me if my reasoning is wrong..

Even if 25% of the government employees tend to loaf we may say that the government is inefficient.

It can be properly inferred on the basis of the statements above that the author believes which of the following?
I. Too much job security can have a negative influence on workers.
II. More government workers should be fired.
III. Most government workers are Civil Service employees.
(A) I only
(B) I and III only
(C) II only
(D) I, II, and III
(E) III only
IMO A
IMO b. both 1 and 3 are correct,i think. 1 is obvous, and 3rd because argument gives reference to only civil service employs and tells that the government is inefficient.

In the effort to fire a Civil Service employee, his or her manager may have to spend up to $100,000 of tax money. Since Civil Service employees know how hard it is to fire them, they tend to loaf. This explains in large part why the government is so inefficient.

First i choose A after more analyis i picked C

It is like numbers problem

If there are few civil service employees then the amount may not be big compared the budget and reserves

but if most of government employes are civil servants the it becomes a serious issue

B!

Confusing between I and III but decided to go with III. I think I is too general.

For me taking a decision on option three was the toughest part of this question...

I. Too much job security can have a negative influence on workers. Thus employees lack one incentive to do their best.
II. More government workers should be fired. Does not differentiate between all government workers and the Civil Service portion of government workers.
III. Most government workers are Civil Service employees. This would be a great answer for a strengthen or weaken argument. The question stem makes no reference to the number of CS employees as a percentage of total government workers.

(A) I only
(B) I and III only
(C) II only
(D) I, II, and III
(E) III only
...once I did so, Option A is the answer in my opinion.

(A) I only
(B) I and III only
(C) II only
(D) I, II, and III
(E) III only
Answer E

I Feel its E because, I states the effect on workers and not on the efficiency due to job security...II states a general statement of firing many employees.. the author expects to fire only inefficient ones...III can be a direct inference that civil workers are govt employees from the passage...
