In no other historical sighting did Halley's Comet cause such a worldwide sensation as did its return in 1910-1911.

(A) did its return in 1910-1911
(B) had its 1910-1911 return
(C) in its return of 1910-1911
(D) its return of 1910-1911 did
(E) its return in 1910-1911

After looking at the answer i knew that i made a mess of it.. But want to know what is wrong with option D

Okayyy

IMO C
The sentence can rephrased as :
Haley's comet did cause such a sensation in no other historical sighting as (it did) in its return of 1910-1911

"it did" is ellipsis.
Does it make sense? Please give inputs.

This is a very popular question. It has been discussed a number of times.

OA is C because of the parallelism between two prepositional phrases. .

In no other historical sighting did Halley's Comet cause such a worldwide sensation as in its return of 1910-1911.
