Say x = 100; thus, y = 180.

Thus, x is 80 less than y (= 180), or x is (80/180)*100% = 44 4/9% less than y

The correct answer: D

Solution:

We can let y = 1.8x; thus:

(x - 1.8x)/1.8x * 100 = -0.8x/1.8x * 100 = -8/18 * 100 = -44 4/9 = 44 4/9 percent less

Alternate Solution:

If we let x = 10, then y is 1.8x = 18. Thus, x is 8 less than y. As a percent less than measure, we see that x is 8/18 x 100% = 44 4/9% less than y.

Answer: D
