a^2-b^2 = (a+b) (a-b)

a= x+1/x b=x-1/x

(a+b) = x+1/x+x-1/x = 2x

(a-b) = x+1/x-(x-1/x)
= x+1/x-x+1/x
= 2/x

2x * 2/x = 4

(a+b)^2 - (a-b)^2 = 4ab

So 4(x)(1/x) => 4.
