Hi Vjesus12.

Let's take a look at your question.

If Tom goes y miles in x hours, it implies that his speed is $$\frac{y}{x}\ \frac{\text{miles}}{\text{hours}}.$$ Now, we want the speed per in minutes. Hence, we have to divide by 60 (since 1 hour=60 minutes).

Therefore, Tom does $$\frac{\frac{y}{x}}{60}=\frac{y}{60x}\ \frac{\text{miles}}{\text{minutes}}.$$ This is why the correct answer is the option B.

x hours = 60x MINUTES (since there are 60 minutes in each hour)

So, the DISTANCE Tom travels = y miles, and his TRAVEL TIME = 60x minutes
Speed = distance/time
So, Tom's speed = y/(60x)

Answer: B

We are given that Tom goes y miles in x hours, so he has a rate of y miles/x hours. To determine his rate in miles per minute, let's convert x hours to minutes:

x hours = 60x minutes

Thus, his rate, in miles per minute, is y/(60x).

Answer: B
