A. x^2
B. x^3
C. x^6
D. 6x^2
E. 6x^3

The OA is D.

The highlighted part refer that the answer option must be a square so only options (A) and (D) remains...

Volume = x^3

Side = x

Total Surface area =6x^2. Option D.

Has anyone another approach to solve this PS question? Regards!

Hi swerve,

We're told that the volume of a cube is X^3 cubic units. We're asked for the number of SQUARE units in the SURFACE AREA of the cube. This question can be solved in a couple of different ways, including by TESTing VALUES.

IF... X = 2, then we have a 2x2x2 cube.
Each surface of the cube has an area of 2x2 = 4.
There are 6 surfaces, so the total surface area = (6)(4) = 24

Thus, we're looking for an answer that equals 24 when we use X=2. There's only one answer that matches...

Final Answer: D

If the volume of a cube is x^3, then each edge is x. The surface area of one face of the cube is x^2, and since there are 6 faces, the cube's surface area is 6x^2.
