If it takes Patrick 4 hours to paint a room, how long did it take Patrick and Roger working together?

(1) Roger started painting the room at 12 noon.
(2) It takes Roger 3 hours to paint the room.

B is the Official Answer.

The statement (1) is not sufficient? Why not?

Hi Vincen,

We need rates of painting of Patrick and Roger to get their combined rate.

Statement 1 itself is not sufficient since we do not know after starting at 12, by what time Roger completed the work. Thus, the rate of Roger is not known.
