If [x] is the greatest integer less than or equal to x, what is the value of [-1.6]+[3.4]+[2.7]?

A. 3
B. 4
C. 5
D. 6
E. 7

this question is basically saying that the numbers in [ ] must be rounded, but only to the number either LESS than or EQUAL to the number in the [ ]. So, for example: [-1.6] is going to be rounded to [-2] because -2 is LESS than -1.6. [3.4] is going to be rounded to 3 since 3 is LESS THAN 3.4. Same goes for [2.7], it is going to be rounded to 2, since 2 is LESS than 2.7.


Thus,

-2 + 3 + 2 = 3

for [x], check the greatest intger that is less than or equal to x
[-1.6] = -2
[3.4] = 3
[2.7] = 2

Sum = 3
