birth per sec = 9/2

death per sec = 3/2

increase per sec = 9/2 - 3/2 = 3

so in one day increase = 3 * 24* 3600 = 259200

There are 3600 sec in an hour.

Or, in longer form, (60 sec/min)(60 min/hr) = 3600 sec/hr
