Using ratios, convert 4 minutes into copies:
(4 minutes) * (60 seconds)/(1 minute) * (2 copies)/(1/3 second) = 1440 copies.

The correct answer is E.

We can also solve this question with equivalent ratios

We'll first convert 4 minutes to SECONDS in order to use the same units of measurement throughout the solution.
1 minute = 60 seconds
So, 4 minutes = 240 seconds.

Now let's set up and equation using the ratio # of copies/time in seconds
Let x = the number of copies made in 4 minutes (aka 240 seconds)
We get: 2/(1/3) = x/240
Cross multiply to get: (1/3)(x) = (2)(240)
Simplify: x/3 = 480
Multiply both sides by 3 to get: x = 1440

Answer: E

The rate of the photocopier is 2/(1/3) = 6 copies per second, so in 4 minutes, or 240 seconds, it can make 6 x 240 = 1,440 copies.

Answer: E
