If $936 is divided between worker A and B in the ratio 5:7, what the share that worker B will get?

A. 58.12%
B. 58.33%
C. 58.55%
D. 58.76%
E. 58.97%

The OA is B.

To solve this PS question we can say,

B's share 7/(5+7) of the total = 7/12 of the total.

B's percentage share = 7/12 *100 = 58.33%. Option B.

Has anyone another strategic approach to solve this PS question? Regards!

Your solution is perfect.
I'd just like to point out how get convert 7/12 to a percent.
As you've shown, to convert a fraction to a percent, we convert to a decimal and multiply it by 100
So, (7/12)(100) = 700/12
= 350/6
= 175/3
= 58 1/3
= 58 + 0.333333....
= 58.333333....%

As you can see, the correct answer is 58.33333....% (where the 3 is a REPEATING decimal)
So, the question should really be worded something like: If $936 is divided between worker A and B in the ratio 5:7, then worker B receives APPROXIMATELY what percent of the money?

We can create the ratio:

A : B = 5x : 7x

So B will get 7x/(5x + 7x) = 7x/(12x) = 7/12 = 58.33%.

Answer: B
