Hi swerve,

We're told that 70 percent of X is equal to 50 percent of Y. We're asked to find Y as a percent of X. This question can be solved by TESTing VALUES.

IF....
X = 100
70 = 50% of Y
Y = 140

Thus, comparing 140 to 100, we see that Y is 140% of X.

Final Answer: E

A. 20%

B. 71%

C. 75%

D. 120%

E. 140%
We need to determine the value of (y/x)(100). We are given that 70 percent of x is equal to 50 percent of y; thus:

0.7x = 0.5y

7x = 5y

7/5 = y/x

Thus, y as a percentage of x is:

(y/x)(100) = (7/5)(100) = 140

Answer: E
