If 3 years ago Jennifer was 22 years old, how old is Carmen now?

(1) 10 years ago, Carmen was twice as old as Jennifer.
(2) 10 years from today, Carmen will be 15 years older than Jennifer.

Target question: How old is Carmen now?

Given: 3 years ago Jennifer was 22 years old
So, Jennifer's PRESENT age is 25

Statement 1: 10 years ago, Carmen was twice as old as Jennifer.
If Jennifer's PRESENT age is 25, then Jennifer's age 10 YEARS AGO was 15
This means Carmen's age 10 YEARS AGO was 30, which means Carmen's PRESENT AGE is 40
Since we can answer the target question with certainty, statement 1 is SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: 10 years from today, Carmen will be 15 years older than Jennifer.
This just tells us that Carmen is 15 years older than Jennifer
If Jennifer's PRESENT age is 25, then Carmen's PRESENT AGE is 40
Since we can answer the target question with certainty, statement 2 is SUFFICIENT

Current age of \(J = 25; C =\)?

Statement 1: \(C - 10 = 2(J - 10) \Rightarrow C = 30 + 10 = 40\). Sufficient \(\Large{\color{green}\checkmark}\)

Statement 2: \( C + 10 = J + 10 + 15 \Rightarrow C = 50 - 10 = 40\). Sufficient \(\Large{\color{green}\checkmark}\)
