Although improved efficiency in converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it will stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowering prices, thereby boosting consumption.
A. in converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it will stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowering prices, thereby boosting
B. in converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, demand will be stimulated because of increasing supply and lowering prices, which boost
C. of converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it will stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowering prices, which boosts
D. of harvested trees being converted into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it will stimulate demand, because it will increase supply and lower prices, thereby boosting
E. when harvested trees are converted into wood products may reduce harvest rates, demand will be stimulated because of increasing supply and lowering prices, which boost

D and E can be eliminated straight away....
C is wrong because if Which refers to prices then "BOOSTS" should be plural not singular... so WRONG...
we are left with A and B....

A you might say "IT" is wrong but my doubt is IT should refer to Improved efficiency
what are the other ways of selecting the choice between A and B????.... Please explain....

I would suggest you not to worry much on pronoun ambiguity as there are no absolute rules on this. Look for some other kind of error.

A vs B

B - it has many issues (IMO):
(1) who is stimulating the demand - unclear; In the original sentence, it is clear that IT (refering to THE SUBJECT OF PREVIOUS CLAUSE ie "IMPROVED EFFICIENCY IN CONVERTING TREES"). The main clause of B is passive and it does not give the logical doer of the action (ie of WILL BE STIMULATED)

(2) the use of BECAUSE OF changes the meaning further - this implies when INCREASING SUPPLY AND LOWERING PRICES will happen DEAMND WILL BE STIMULATED ON ITS OWN (note, sentence does not say that INCREASING SUPPLY AND LOWERING PRICES will stimulate demand

(3) use of WHICH BOOST (here WHICH could refer to COLLECTIVE NOUN " increasing supply and lowering prices", BUT the use of BOOST (simple present) suggests that ' increasing supply and lowering prices' IS BOOSTING CONSUMPTION AS A GENERAL PRACTICE (even at this point in time).

(4) The original sentence intends to say:
IT WILL STIMULATE DEMAND BY XX, THEREBY BOOSTING CONSUMPTION : it gives a casual relationship IMPROVED EFFICIENCY --> XX {increasing supply and lowering prices} --> STIMULATE DEMAND --> BOSSTING CONSUMPTION. B compltely changes the meaning.

CORRECT ANSWER IS B.... I DONT HAVE THE REASON... I SUPPOSE ITS BECAUSE OF "IT".... if any one can explain.....

I prefer A as well. "It" clearly refers to "increased efficiency", "stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowering prices" is well written, and the modifying phrase at the end "thereby boosting..." works well.

B is passive ("demand will be stimulated") and I think "stimulated because of" is not nearly as good as "stimulated by."

I really do not know how can somebody even choose B as the answer. there is something wrong with the listing of the OA... What Bill said is correct but there is one more point that is going against the option B,


Option B uses 'which' a conjunction and it only modifies the preceding noun i.e prices.

It changes the meaning as well...

on the contrary option A uses a perfect comma and then a modifier to modify the entire clause,

Option A is the correct answer... Please check once more the OA and the source of this question...
