"The best way to give advice to other people is to find out what then want and then advice them how to attain it."




I agree to some extent that the best way to give advice to others is to find out what they want and then advice them how to attain it. However, beyond that extent it is detrimental and there are consequences that might become unavoidable for the advice seeker. I would like to list out few in the course of this essay.
Firstly, the one who gives advice will end up imposing his/her own view-point regardless of the advice seeker's opinion. Hence, the framework of the seeker's goal might change, although is not the intent. Secondly, though it is the best way to reach the desired goal, it is not recommended because it will knock-down the ability of the advice seeker to think on his/her own during difficulties and end up resorting to someone.
For an instance, when I wanted to apply for a graduation program, I approached my friend's brother, whom I used to look up to. I wanted to enroll myself into a program that has Math and Commerce. He, being an engineer student encouraged me to apply for an engineering program in spite of the fact that I explicitly stated my interests. On the other hand, he was little clueless about a program that offers the combination Math & Commerce, neither did I.
Therefore, though it is the best way to advice others after knowing their interests, the onus lies on the advice seeker to ensure that he/she is approaching the right person. Furthermore, he/she should ensure to listen to every detail, but not to get influenced at the cost of their interests. This way, there will be no cumbersome in achieving the desired goal.
