I have some genuine problems and I need your help to beat the GMAT.
GMAT was in my mind since long and I appeared 2 months back, without any preparation, just to check my level and capability.
I scored 560 (Q-48, VA-19 and AWA-4.0). Of course, the score was low, or better, devastating. But I blamed it to lack of preparation, as I considered my English better than average, which my score failed to represent anyway. Being an Electrical Engineer and having Maths background, Quant was never a problem (at least I thought so).
Soon after my GMAT, I bought GMAT Official Guide (12th Edition) and started going through it. At first, I felt that it is only Sentence Correction which needs special attention as CR looked fine to me (did not consider the time factor while solving them). I bought MGMAT SC Guide (Fourth Edition) and OG Verbal Review (2nd Edition), apart from some random stuff.
I gave myself 2 months time after getting these Guides on my study table, and registered for GMAT again. However, because of working full time my study plan did not work as planned and I could only give 1-2 hrs (that too not regularly) each day and finished MGMAT SC, OG 12th Edition SC and GMAT Verbal Review SC. However during this time I realized GMAT was more than what I knew and my high school grammar was nowhere near it (or I forgot it completely). Nonetheless, I got little confidence in SC. For CR I did OG 12th Edition but could not get time for Verbal Review. Same with RC. Quant was my only hope and I was pretty confident about it, so, did not put any effort except looking at some basic formulas.
The 2 months seemed to be too little in getting confidence on all the Verbal sections, as lately, I realized a big problem - Timing. Tests offered by MGMAT proved to be a disaster and Official GMAT Prep software was only little better. CR and RC in which I got 70-80 percent accuracy while solving the OG problems were almost mystery to me in the timed environment. In the 75 minutes, I can only finish attending to 26-28 or 30 questions properly (of course not all are correct). Decoding the CR questions usually take around 3 minutes each and I could not find any proper strategy to attack the RC paragraphs beneficial to me (Although I read some techniques of taking notes, etc. in the forums).
Finally, I scored 620 today (Q-48, VA-27), of course, another disaster. The same things happened again- felt Quant easy as earlier and Verbal again ditched me. Well, the SC preparation paid (at least I felt so in the test) and had a tough time in RC especially. CR- I don't know whether my options were correct or not! I could only keep my patience till the 31st question only as the time left was just little more than 4 minutes.
Now, somehow, I feel more dedicated towards GMAT and I could not let my dream of pursuing MBA shatter like that. Please guide me based on the above for the study plan, strategy, how to increase speed and reading habits, accuracy, etc. Again, I am working full time and can give 1-2 hrs on week days and 6-8 hrs on weekends. Although, this may not be a very general problem, but your sincere advices can help many more.
