I've noticed that my GMAT scores are SEVERELY impacted by my ability to critically read and comprehend the material faced to me.

After reading a passage, I can't seem to get a sense for the Main Idea, Purpose, and Attitude that is needed to successfully comprehend the passage. While reading the sample reading comprehension passages, I have a habit of breaking each passage by sentences and I get so bogged down by trying to disentegrate each sentence meaningfully that I completely lose focus of the intent of the author.

I'm worried shitless and I don't know if merely doing more passages in the OG are going to help me get better scores. A few questions:

1. Is there a 'killer' RC book that is going to help me understand exactly 'how' to find the Main Point, Purpose, and Attitude of the author?

2. I am scheduled to take my GMAT on January 10. Given my stringent timelines, I obviously can't afford reading heavy books to become great at my reading. My strategy would rather involve reading official OG questions, answer the questions methodologically, and move. Do you have recommendations regarding this approach?

3. I have a very quantitative mindset. When I take a math problem, I know all the possible approaches and I'll go with the best one. Given that there is no ambiguity with the answer choices, I know that there can only be one answer. This helps me because I'm all about STRUCTURED approaches. I can't see the same thing when it comes to solving Critical Reasoning and RC questions. Does anyone have any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong? I'm a QUANT guy. I develop software tools at work.
