However much

by [email protected] » Fri Nov 20, 2009 11:03 pm
However much parents in Johannson's district may agree that the instruction of moral values should take place in the elementary school classroom, it is difficult for them to arrive at consensus concerning what those values are and how they should be taught.
(A) However much parents in Johannson's district may agree that
(B) Despite the fact that parents in Johannson's district may agree that
(C) There is general agreement among the parents in Johannson's district that
(D) Although the parents in Johannson's district agree for
(E) Even though the parents in Johannson's district agree

Is the usage of However much correct in the answer choice A???....

Source of this Qn is Kaplan 800....

OA is A...I am convinced why B cannot be the answer but not with the explanation on A....

Any views....

In the question it is not mentioned as a fact that the parents in the J dist may agree. In fact we are not sure of anything regarding the parent's opinion.

"However much parents in Johannson's district may agree" does not give us any solid information regarding the parents' stand.

So, is much quantifying agree here? Because I guess parent should be countable noun, and it should take many with it, not much!

Does the sentence mean something like: How much the parents agree......?

Please explain!

even though does not mean the same thing as However much.

Why E is incorrect ? It gives the same meaning as A does, with less awkwardness. I hate SC the most.
