How to study the MGMAT book with limited time

Hello everybody,

I currently have 1 more semester of school left and as a last minute decision I decided to apply for my Masters. The deadline is approaching so I applied to take the exam on 8/22, which is 6.5 weeks from now.

Today I decided to take the GMAT diagnostic at MBA.com and as expected I did horrible.

Total Score : 440
Quantitative score : (32, 31%)
Verbal score : (19, 16%)
Integrated Reasoning : 0 Correct!!!

The school I am applying for requires a 55% in Quant and 45% in Verbal. Do you think this is possible with only 6.5 weeks? I'm interning full time this summer so I'd probably study 2-3 hours on the weekdays and 5-6 hours on the weekends. I've also went online on purchased the Manhattan GMAT 5th set and OG 13th edition.

I'm not sure if I can go over all the books in a limited time, would it be ok for me to just go over the basics and skip the advanced portions? I'm not aiming for a 700, just 550-600.

Hi Pilly,

If you are aiming for a 550, then you can likely skip the advanced sections of the MGMAT guides. You could also skip the combinatorics and probability sections, since those areas are less frequently tested. However, my best advice to you would be to take advantage of the powerful reporting features provided by MGMAT's practice tests. You have free access to 6 practice tests through your purchase of the MGMAT guides. The tests will give you specific information on your strengths and weaknesses, and will help you to better direct your studying.

Can we have specific advice---what to read?--How to read??--How should we allocate the time?----Because The Center point is 6.5 weeks.....and it is very limited time. I think specific direction for every week will be very helpful.

Follow that plan and cover the topics available in the link. By topics, I meant the most tested ones. Give more importance your strengths and hone your weak areas as well.

This is very generic and nobody can help you without knowing what needs to be improved. And to know what needs to be improved, its in your hands - your mocks and your performance. You might be already strong in RC or CR and spending a week on it with our advice is quite useless considering your 6.5 week schedule. I hope you get the point. So take the mocks, prioritize what you need to improve with the second link provided above and improve the most tested topics. That would help you achieve your goal. Apart from that your quant score seems too low and you might need to look on something like Nova GMAT book if you find MGMAT strategy guides to be difficult. You can find reviews about it here -> https://www.amazon.com/GMAT-Math-Prep-Co ... ewpoints=1. It is quite useful for beginners, though it has its pros and cons. Use that for quant alone and only when you find MGMAT strategy guides to be hard to understand, otherwise skip it and go ahead with MGMAT alone do not waste time. Hope this helps !! :)
