Target question: How many liters of apple juice were added to the cranberry juice in a certain container?

Let A = number of liters of apple juice added to the cranberry juice

Statement 1: The amount of apple juice that was added was 3/2 times the amount of cranberry juice in the container.
In other words, A = (3/2)(amount of cranberry juice in the container)
Since we don't know the amount of cranberry juice in the container, we can't find the value of A
Since we cannot answer the target question with certainty, statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: There were 5 liters of cranberry juice in the container.
No information here about apple juice.
Statement 2 is NOT SUFFICIENT

Statements 1 and 2 combined
Statement 1 tells us that A = (3/2)(amount of cranberry juice in the container)
Statement 2 tells us that the amount of cranberry juice in the container = 5
So, A = (3/2)(5) = 15/2 = 7.5
The answer to the target question is 7.5 liters of apple juice were added

Answer: C
