Dear Sir/Mam,

I improved my GMAT score from 530 in first attempt to 670 (sep, 2014) in second.

Could you please advise me if I should go for the 3rd attempt and try to get above 700.

And also let me know how the number of GMAT attempts impact quality of MBA admission application.

Hi sutender,

You've asked 2 different questions, and I'll be happy to answer both. While individual situations may vary, in general, Business Schools don't really care if you take the GMAT more than once (so you can take it 2 or 3 times, if you choose). What Schools would LIKE to see, if you retest, is some type of improvement on your part. You've already make a great improvement to your score, so now the question becomes....

Should you retake the GMAT again?... A 670 is a strong score (it's above the 80th percentile, so you're in position to apply to most US schools/programs. Specific programs might place an emphasis on your Quant Scaled Score, so if that Score wasn't at the higher end, then a retest might be warranted. Certain scholarships might also have a GMAT score "requirement", so there's that to consider as well.

If you know the specific schools/programs that you're planning to apply to, then you should have no trouble doing the necessary research to decide if a retest is necessary. For specific Admissions questions, you should try posting in the Admissions Sub-Forum (on this site).

I have to agree with Rich here.

Having spoken with numerous admissions officials (and former admissions officials who now work for Veritas Prep admissions consulting) the main theme is this: if you are not happy with your GMAT score, and if your score is not at least within the middle 80% for the school to which you are applying, then you should take it again.

If you are applying to a school that has a median score of 720 and you have now a 670 then it might make sense to take the GMAT again. You have shown strong improvement from your first exam so schools will like that. If you are scoring above 700 on practice exams AND if you feel that it is necessary to your application to increase your score then you certainly have the option to take it again.

Rich has said it, you need to know what the median scores are like for the places that you are applying. 670 is a strong score and you might not need to take the exam again!
