330 = 1*2^2*3*5^2
We see that 1, 3 and 5 are common factors; however, one more factor is 15 (= 3*5). So there are 4 distinct common factors.
Another approach to this question:
We know that the Highest Common Factor/Greatest Common Divisor to two numbers is called GCD or HCF. Thus, let's find out GCD/HCF of 165 and 330.
GCD (165 & 330) = 15
Since GCD is 15, all the factors of 15 would be common to 165 and 330.
All factors of 15 are 1, 3, 5, and 15. There are four factors.
The correct answer:
C
