How many cartons of milk

by beater » Sun Aug 24, 2008 12:36 pm
How many cartons of milk does supermarket A have in stock?

(1) One-third of the cartons of milk in stock are skim, and the remaining 2,000 cartons contain whole milk.
(2) If supermarket A were to buy 3,500 more cartons of milk, it would more than double its stock of milk.

I think the answer should be A.

Statement I

let total carton be x

1/3x = skim milk
2/3x=2000

x=3000

Sufficient.

Statement II

if super market buys 3500 more cartons

x+3500 = more than double it stock

we dont know how much more.

Insufficient.

Hence A is the answer.

Whats the OA?
