Hello,

First my past/present -

I am working in the IT sector for the past 3.5 years. If you ask domain, I'll say Banking and health care but not much of core domain knowledge in both. I feel I am good at the core technology part and would love to do the Business Analyst stuff (technical knowledge I feel will be an added advantage).

Now, to the future and the main question, MBA in XYZ?

XYZ can be -

General management - I feel it wont be of any use spending loads of money in a General MBA. What do you all say?

Healthcare - I don't want to do MBA in healthcare.

Finance - CONFUSION

IT/COMPUTERS - CONFUSION

XYZ - Any other options there?

This is where the confusion starts. Should I do MBA in FINANCE or IT? I was able to find schools good in finance but How do I find schools which are good in MBA - IT/COMPUTERS?

How do I do the introspection part at my end to find which MBA is suitable? Any good blogs, articles which might help me.

This is where you really need to sit down and evaluate your short-term (immediately after b-school) and long-term (5 - 10 years from now) goals. You should determine what career you want and also what skills you need to build in order to be successful in that career. Deciding why you need an MBA is something only you can do. You need to feel pretty certain about your choice because business school is a huge investment of time and money.

Very true VP_MBA Expert. That is what I am doing these days.

Which schools are good in terms of MBA in IT/Computers? How do I find the same from the school's website?

Some strong IT schools are MIT (Sloan), Carnegie Mellon (Tepper), Stanford, McCombs (UT - Austin), and Haas (UC - Berkeley). You should also research which companies recruit at the schools you are considering to make sure your expectations are met.

Hi VP_MBA Expert,

Thanks for the reply. I got a couple of queries though.

First, all the schools you mentioned (other than McCombs, maybe) are surely strong IT schools but how do I figure it out that they are strong for IT-MBA. CMU and MIT are no doubt very respectable schools for an MS in IT but for MBA?

Second, how do I figure that the IT company is coming to a school looking for an IT candidate. Morgan Stanley can come to XYZ school for an IT Manager?

How to evaluate

Hi all,

How can one evaluate which school is good for MBA in IT? As VP_MBA Expert said, we can find which companies come for recruitment but is that a fair scale? As I said, Morgan Stanley can come to pick an IT Manager.

How should I go about searching for good MBA-IT schools?
