Most of the schools reply by email if you are either selected or dinged. However, some schools take an extra step to call the applicants who are selected for all the hardwork they have put in their application. The personal touch also makes them feel special!

I have never seen a school calling the rejected candidates.

Regarding the decision date, check out the 'Admission Deadlines' section in your schools. They would mention a decision date by which you would get your final result.

Was asked for an interview 10 days after submitting my application. Received an e-mailed notifying me of acceptance about 12 days after the interview.
