How can I tailor my study plan...

by ikant » Wed Mar 05, 2008 7:43 pm
Hello clan,

I am a software engineer working with TCS in India for two and a half years. I had written GMAT once in the year 2006 and scored a 710.

I was extremely happy about this and the hallowed portals of the top business schools were the order of my dreams. I had applied to the following schools:

1). Darden
2). UCLA - Anderson
3). UIUC - Kenan Flagler
4). Tepper
5). ISB

I had my interviews done with a three out of the five schools mentioned above. I was hopeful to crack one of these schools, but Fate had it otherwise.

I hav not got an Admit or even a Waitlist by any of these schools. I was filled with feelings of rage and anger for about a month. But now I have got over the turbulence. My counsellor says that my GMAT score needs to be improved.

So I am going at it again this year with a 70 days study time. Could the community here help me with a study plan and the recommended study guides that may assist me in nailing a 750+ score?

Millions of thanks in advance,

iKant

You may be better off focusing on other areas of your application instead of the GMAT. You're existing GMAT score is very strong, and improving your score by 40 points shouldn't make that much of a difference.

I'd recommend you reach out to Stacy Blackman about your situation. She may have more tactical advice about how to approach your admissions, as well as perspective on your current GMAT.

Good luck!

The problem in your profile is not the GMAT but the fact that you belong to very competitive ( & crowded ;) ) pool! : You belong to IIMs  (Indian IT Males ) category.

While I cant comment on your profile & candidacy (as I have verrry litle information about you!) I can say maybe less work-ex was more imp deciding factor than your GMAT score.

All the best!

Hello aim,

I welcome yur comment and do agree in part to the fact that the Indian IT male is the most comeptitive category.

However, I have had a roller coaster career at the firm studded with two promotions. Today I supervise people who have work experiences ranging from 2 to 10 years.

My tasks and responsibilities are aligned to the company's bottomline. In fact I was surprised when my counsellor told me the same thing that being an IT guy I can't make through.

I wonder if I was not the typical profile why did they call me for interviews. Secondly, one of my friends has got an Admit from Tepper with just one year of IT workex and a 730 GMAT.

Now how does that fit in? I hope you understand my predicament.

One quesn to beatthegmat. Can I post to Stacy with an updated resume copy attached?

You dont have to upload your biodata, even 2/3 paragraphs about your profile & career advancement would do.
You can follow the general template that everybody use here & can cover the points Stacy B has asked to.
Check out the sticky thread started by Eric (beatthegmat)
in that section.
