Hi Stacy,

My profile is:

GPA: 3.29 from University of Texas with History major, Business minor

GMAT: Taking on Dec.2. Thinking 680-700 range based on practice tests.

Experience: I have been Overseas Operations Mangaer in Indonesia for a small US wholesale firm that sells furniture, handicrafts to large retailers in the US for the past 3 years.

Extra-curricular: Limited during college due to working through school. Since being in Indonesia I have been very involved in helping Indonesians with business models/efficiency.

I think I have some unique international experiences which have made for strong essays.

I am applying for Round 2 to the following Schools: UNC(Kenan-Flagler), Berkeley(Haas), Michigan(Ross), and Texas(McCombs)

What do you think my chances are at these schools? I am applying to these schools b/c they have programs in sustainable business/renewable energies which is the career change I want to make. Do you have any other suggestions of schools that I should apply?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Dear Nick,

You are applying to some great schools that are also highly competitive for admissions. Your GPA is right around the average for these schools and I agree that you have interesting international experiences you can leverage in your applications. To be in the mix for these schools, I think you need to score at least 670 on your GMAT (of course, higher is better). If you score between 630-670, I still think you might have a shot at UT and UNC, but your application will have to be quite compelling.

I do think it is good to apply to 1-2 safety schools. These would be schools outside the top 25 and your GMAT will be indicative of how far outside you will need to go on selecting your alternatives. For tips on identifying programs, I would encourage you to visit our sticky on school selection.
