Hi all,

Can you please give me a hand by evaluating my profile. If you have any tips regarding how to present my info they are very welcome. Gracias.

General
- Age: 26
- Nationality: Colombian (dual Italian nationality)

Work Experience:
- 2+ years as Investment Banking Analyst with Citigroup in Colombia / Andean Region
- Prior: Less than 1 year as analyst with local consulting firm

Education:
- BS in Economics from Universidad de los Andes (top research university in Colombia, top 10 in Latin America) - GPA 4.42/5.00 equiv to a 3.5-3.6/4.0
- High School - American School in Bogota, Colombia

Testing
- GMAT: 710 (V 87%, Q 84%)

Extracurricular:
- Lead an agriculture, mining, and clean energy development program in rural Colombia
- Lobbying a large scale real estate project in Colombia
- Volunteer entrepeneurship teacher at a local school

Target Schools for Fall ´10:
- Columbia
- Wharton
- Stanford
- Chicago
- NYU

BTW: I took Kaplan for the testprep, it was great!

Muchas gracias por tu preguna. Resulta que conozco Colombia muy bien ya que he trabajado alla y estuve casado con una colombiana durante unos cinco anos.

Bueno...tu perfil me parece bien pero quizas te falten unos anos mas de experiencia laboral...aparte de eso, creo que lo importante es que entiendes que tu perfil es buena...pero no sobresaliente para los programas a los cuales estas aplicando. Dicho de otra manera, sugiero que apliques a otras universidades tambien.

Queda claro que ser colombiano es una pequena ventaja pero no enorme: hay muchos estudiantes internacionales en los programa de MBA pero, igual, un extranjero con un 710 (y cuya lengua madre no es ingles!) es muy interesante.

Hi Nicolas,

Your profile definitely ticks lot of check boxes. You have at par GMAT/ GPA for most of the top schools, diversity factor, and age/ work experience.Your extracurricular activities sound very interesting. You have the base and need to build on that by well-written essays. Lot will depend on the quality and depth of your professional and extracurricular experience. Investment banking is not an uncommon background for B-school applicants and you will have to shine through despite a 'normal' professional background.

Your target schools are top ones and some of the most competitive ones to get into. Focus on essays and recommendations and you could be into one of them.

You have a very compelling profile. Your GMAT score is actually high for a candidate from South America (people usually score less there than say India because standardized testing is not so much part of the culture and means of gaining entrance to universities).

I think your target schools are perfect. Given HBS has only one optional essay you might as well also apply there too.
