I currently have 9 years of professional experience in the field of patent search and analytics. This includes 3 years of entrepreneurial experience and last 3+ years in a Fortune 5 oil and gas company. I am planning to take GMAT in August and apply for B-schools in US for fall 2012. I would appreciate any comments on the following queries:

1. I have been told by some councilors that for US schools any experience greater than 6 years is not considered very encouraging (there sure would be exceptions). Can anybody provide first hand experience from current or recent batches

2. Owing to my last 3+ years of experience in the energy sector, I would like to continue in the energy sector preferably renewable/clean/emerging technologies on the VC/investment side. Are there any particular schools in US that would be specially suitable for such expectations?

3. I got to know of the MIT Sloan 1 yr fellowship program which is intended with those with 8+ years of experience. Can anybody throw any light on job prospects for this program?

This seems to be too much to ask in my first post but any comments on any of the above points will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sure

Hey!

I cannot comment much on the programs. But I can confidently tell you that 9 years with a very unique profile such as yours is certainly an advantage rather than a disadvantage. Of course you have to explain your timing of the MBA plans but that matters even if you were applying with 4 or 6.

For your second questions you can do some research.
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)
