Help in School Selection

by hatemkr » Mon Nov 03, 2008 5:52 am
Hi,

I would like to ask about safety school should I consider when I apply this year.

Brief Profile:
- Nationality: Saudi
- Major B.S. Computer Engineering
- GPA: 3.45 out of 4.0
- GMAT : 680 (Q47,V35, AWA 4.0)
- TOEFL: 109 iBT
- Will be having around 2.5 years of experience at a leading management consulting firm when I begin my MBA in fall 2009
- Age: 25

I already decided to apply to the below top schools:
- Harvard (Submitted)
- Stanford (Submitted)
- Cornell
- Columbia

However, I am concerned about which of the below desired schools will be in my reach:
- Kellogg
- Wharton (I will be able to get a recommendation from one of our partners who is a Wharton alumnus and I will also attend their information session in Saudi Arabia, however I am concerned about their high average for years of experience)
- Yale
- Michigan
- UCLA

Quesitons: -Which of the above desired schools is realistic for me?
-I will have the time to apply to a safety school but I am not sure which school should I apply to. What options do you suggest for me?

Many thanks,
Hatem

Dear Hatem,

All of the schools in your post are highly competitive and so none are really a reasonable or safety option. For a safety schools, you want to look at schools outside the top 25 where the GMAT average is more in the 640-670 range.

Good luck,
Lisa
