I will go with A because the two sentences are separated by ; and when the two sentences are separated by ; then both the sentences must be capable of standing alone and A option only satisfies the same................wats the OA

Where is this question from? It's full of errors. "By necessary" is incorrect; the idiom is "by necessity." "Many" doesn't agree with the singular "woman," so it should be "women." Choice E is redundant, since you don't need both "at least" and "or more" in the same sentence, choices A and B incorrectly use "much" instead of "many," and I can't really say that either C or D sounds acceptable to me; the double negative in D is incorrect ("not no"), and I don't think "had not any" is right either; it sounds really awkward, and I think the preferred usage is simply "had no."
I googled this and came up with the same question on another site, and they said that the answer is D. I can't see any way for that to be correct. So what's the source here? And what's the OA?

EDITED TO ADD: If I had to choose an answer, I'd say C. But I don't really think any of these answers are correct.

thanks for your explanation. I was going through one of the forums, and I got this question from there. I was not convinced with the OA as D. Sometime, I just wonder which question in forum I should follow.

A,B,E - have redundancy issue.
C is just awful.
D probably has a typo...

I think the correct option should be "more than 500,00 had no"

I'd say that if it's not from the OG, or from a known company-- any of Beat the GMAT's partners are reputable, for instance-- you should be careful. Taking a question of unknown origin from a forum is a little like the blind leading the blind: you might get where you're going, but there are no guarantees, and it could pose some serious risks.

One great thing about the BTG forums is that people often indicate what text or source their question is from; those questions seem more reliable to me. It would be a shame for someone to unconsciously internalize errors like "By necessary," since it's possible that you might see something similar later on in an actual test question, and then you would think that's acceptable because you'd remember seeing it in practice.

Anyway, your instincts were good in doubting this question; it's not a good one.
