A. Young female ballet dancers and gymnasts sometimes fail to maintain good eating habits caused by the desire to be as thin as possible.

B. Good eating habits sometimes fail to be maintained by young female ballet dancers and gymnasts caused by desiring to be as thin as possible.-The emphasis in the sentence changes to another subject.

C. Because they desire to be as thin as possible, good eating habits are sometimes not maintained by young female ballet dancers and gymnasts.-Again,passive voice.

D. Because they desire to be as thin as possible, young female ballet dancers and gymnasts sometimes fail to maintain good eating habits.

E. Young female ballet dancers and gymnasts sometimes fail to maintain good eating habits because they desire to be as thin as possible.-Too wordy.
I am confused between A and D.
I think it should be D??
C is out coz they modifies young dancers.

B is out coz of passive voice.

E is out coz it isnt clear what does they modify ? habits ? dancers ?

A is wrong coz of the slight change in the meaning

Hence IMO D

Hope this helps :)

D & E use active voice but as far as D is concerned I think "Because of their desire to be" would've been correct as compared to "Because they desire to be", So I am confused between D & E. In E "because they" doesn't fit. guys what do you think about D & E particularly, some more explanation would be great.

By the way what's the OA & the source?
