35 is the highest factor of itself and a factor of 280 as well, so
35 is the greatest common factor of 35 and 280.

To find the GCF of two large numbers, find the prime factorization of each one, and the GCF will be the product of all of the prime factors that they have in common.

example
420 = 2x2x3x5x7
378 = 2x3x3x3x7
So, the GCF of 420 and 378 = 2x3x7 (42)
