In the original sentence, we understand that methods saved the county in 1880's

In option C we know methods saved the country but we don't know when.

A) Pests had destroyed grape, celery, chili pepper crops, sugar beet and walnut in the region, but in the 1880s, more effective pest-control methods saved the citrus industry.

B) Pests had destroyed grape, celery, chili pepper, sugar beet and walnut crops in the region, but in the 1880s, more effective pest-control methods saved the citrus industry.

Wat is the differnce ! between these two choices ! Just the bold phrase changes the meaning ?????

I hate this BS! I chose C instead of B thinking 'GMAT likes unambiguous sentences'.

ouch, I actually picked A. If my eyes didn't fail me, the difference is chili pepper crops vs. walnut crops? How can you tell which is correct?

CROPS should modify the entire plants/fruits.

In the original sentence it only modifies the chili pepper.

Otherwise there is no difference between Pepper and walnut crops
