graduating is still a top priority

According to a recent poll, graduating is still a top priority of the majority of college students, like that of earlier generations.

(A)like that of earlier generations
(B)as that for earlier generations
(C)just as earlier generations did
(D)as have earlier generations
(E)as it was of earlier generations

What is wrong with option A?
I'm no expert, just trying to work on my skills. If I've made any mistakes please bear with me.

"like' compares nouns while 'as' compares verbs. The way option A reads i think it means : college students who are similar to the students of earlier generations. makes no sense.

Hi hemant_rajput,

This SC is built around a comparison (which means we also need to follow the rules of parallelism).

The first part of the comparison:

"GRADUATING IS still a top priority of the MAJORITY OF COLLEGE STUDENTS"

The second part of the comparison has to match up with the first AND introduce the comparison:

"AS IT WAS of EARLIER GENERATIONS"

"as" introduces the comparison
"graduating" matches "it"
"is" matches "was"
"majority of college students" matches "earlier generations"

Final Answer: E
